Marine World Trip for Honor Band Students

Dear Students and Parents

The students and I are very excited about the possibility of performing at Marine World Discovery Kingdom on May 18th, 2013!  As you may know, California Ed Code prohibits any student from being excluded from a field trip because of an inability to pay.  While we have always honored this aspect of the law, we are now required to ask for “donations” for the trip rather than asking for “fees”.  Of course, our costs remain whether or not enough “donations” are collected to finance the trip.  Sadly, many trips have had to be cancelled because of this semantic change.  All WMS Honor Band students and families are invited to attend our potential trip to perform at Marine World on May 18^th, 2013.   (As you may remember from the syllabus, this event is considered extra curricular - there is no penalty or bonus for attending.)  The cost of the trip will be $50 – 55.00:  $29.50 for the Marine World ticket and $20 - $25 for bus transportation for each student attending.  (We will be able to determine the exact cost when we have an accurate count of attendees.  If enough people drive themselves we may be able to arrange the trip with car pools which would reduce the cost significantly. The bus costs about $900.)    We are also happy to purchase additional tickets for family members at the reduced rate, but we will need to reserve bus space for our performers.   We are so grateful that we are able to provide this enhanced performance opportunity at a far better price than the Music in the Parks trips we’ve taken in the past.

In order to secure the tickets and bus transportation for the "Celebrate the Arts" program, we need to get an accurate count of attendees.  We also need to know whether we can collect enough in “donations” to make the trip.  Please fill out the form attached to this letter and return it no later than March 15th.  Parents, please consider joining us as a chaperone.  Because of the logistical concerns in performing in the park, we will need plenty of support!!  We hope you can join us.   Thanks!
